Local Delicacies
- [ Omi Beef ]
- Together with Matsusaka Beef and Kobe Beef, Omi Beef is one of three popular brands in Japan. Soft and marbled beef melts in the mouth.
- [ Funazushi ]
- Funazushi is made by pickling lake carp and has a characteristic smell. It is said to be a prototype of modern sushi. It goes well with Japanese sake. The price of Funazushi is soaring in recent years.
- [ Kamo Nabe ]
- A dish with wild duck cooked in a pot at the table. Each Ryokan serves Kamo Nabe slightly differently from each other. The wild duck is healthy and delicious with just enough fat.
- [ Grilled Ayu ]
- Ayu sweetfish is often served grilled with salt in the summer. Ayu-lovers eat the fish from its head.
- [ Carp Dish ]
- Some love its characteristic smell while others some don't. Slices of carp rinsed in cold water are delicious.
- [ Otsu-e ]
- Popular pictures drawn and sold in Otani and Oiwake. Also called as Otani-e or Oiwake-e. Its origin reportedly dates back to Edo Period.Among various Otsue-e, 10 patterns are famous.
